Camp: Various Vertebrates

Send the kids (ages 5 to 10) with their lunch and a refillable water bottle and we’ll do the rest. Your children will be engaged and entertained by our science and nature themed camps, featuring hands-on activities, games, art projects, new friends, and more. Weather permitting, campers will spend the majority of their time outdoors. We will follow any currently relevant COVID safety guidelines that have been approved by the City of Bellaire.

Ages: 5 to 10 years old

Days & Times:  Monday – Friday from 9am – 3pm

Camp Cost (includes a t-shirt – click to see the shirt): Wildlife Family Level and above Member Discount $290/week or Nonmembers $370/week

Camp Size and Structure: Limit 20 total campers per week. Campers will be divided in two groups of 10 campers that will have separate camp spaces at the Center. Each group will have the same camp instructor and teen counselor for the entire week. Note: At the time of registration, you must list the first and last names of any friends that your child would like in their camp group. We can not guarantee that any two kids will be placed in the same group without this information up front.

What to Bring: lunches and water bottles. Depending on Covid conditions at the time of camp and current City of Bellaire Covid policies, campers may be recommended to wear masks (but we can not require it).

Because they are short and sweet and you can register for single or multiple days, these mini-camps are perfect for kids who are too young for our regular camps or who have never attended full day, week long camps before.

Your new campers will get to experience what Summer Science Camp is all about in short sessions where they will be engaged and entertained with hands-on activities, games, art projects, new friends, and more all while learning the ropes of camp!

Sneak-a-Peek (pre-k classes)

Sneak-A Peek is a fun-tastic summer program for preschoolers and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers. Crafts, nature walks, live animal encounters, investigations and hands-on activities create an hour of learning fun each week.
Ages: 3 to 5 with an adult caregiver.

Days & Times: Select Sundays, 10 am or 1 pm. Classes are approximately 1 hour long, but individual kids may take more or less time depending on the time they spend on their crafts.

  • August 18 – Desert Dwellers

Cost/Class: Wildlife Family (or higher) Level Members $20 / Non-members $25

Mess Makers (Summer)

Messy, sensory play is an important part of child development. Together with NDC staff and volunteers, you will explore and create with messy things like mud, flowers, paint, and shaving cream. We will make works of art as well as just good old messy fun. After we make messes together, you’ll go home clean!

We’ll meet at the Pavilions behind the Center and plan to hold class outdoors.

Ages: 3 – 7 yrs old with an adult caregiver

Class Limit: 15 children with their adult caregiver

Pilates Play in the Park

Learn movements inspired by nature and animals IN nature with us! Bring your kids of any age to Pilates Play with you on a mat.

This spring we are partnering with local Pilates Instructors from Control Studios, to bring families together in nature with Pilates Play in the Park! This new, half hour program is intended for parents and kids of any age to enjoy together, no prior Pilates experience necessary. Register below and meet your instructor on the front lawn with your exercise mat on Sunday mornings this March. Instructors from Control Studios are volunteering their time and talents, so all proceeds from this program will benefit the Nature Discovery Center.

Sundays in March from 10 am to 10:30 am

  • March 6
  • March 13 with Kale Luhrman
  • March 20 with Eternal Lokumbe
  • March 27 with Kale Luhrman

Cost: $5/person per class

Bring: a pilates or yoga mat and a water bottle
