When it was installed on their estate by the Henshaw family, the aviary housed pheasants and other birds. After the property was purchased and turned into Russ Pitman Park and the Nature Discovery Center, the aviary became home to birds who were injured and could not be released to the wild. These injured birds were under the care of local wildlife rehab volunteers. Today, Center staff and animal care volunteers care for the flock of pigeons who live in the aviary and we use these birds as ambassador animals in our educational programs. Stop by and meet the flock!
