Weekly Mindfulness Classes Online during the Coronavirus Closure

This is what in person classes are like when we are able to offer them.  Please look out for a new series in Fall 2020.

Join Heather Sullivan for weekly mindfulness classes in the urban oasis of Russ Pitman Park! She’ll begin each class in the Nature Discovery Center classroom with a guided 15-minute lesson. Then you will each go to a quiet spot in the park to practice simply being mindful not mind-full. Heather will meet you back at the Center with wild-collected tea for sharing.

Heather’s mindfulness classes will provide you with the tools you need to Be. Here. Now. You’ll find it to be a restorative time in nature, a chance to focus your awareness on the present moment, calmly acknowledging and accepting your feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations while you seek respite from your hectic daily life.

Practicing mindfulness in nature can lower your blood pressure and heart rate, as well as decrease levels of stress hormones in your body.

About Heather

Heather is passionate about teaching kids and adults the tools to cope with stress and develop a more mindful approach to life in order to nurture a positive state of mind. She currently teaches a mindfulness class at Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary and is working with schools in Spring Branch ISD to teach mindfulness to teachers.

Heather is a native Texan who grew up in Fort Worth. She’s been back in Texas for a few years after living in Colorado, Oklahoma, and California. Heather has been meditating for over eight years. In 2016 she took the Mindfulness Fundamentals course, and the Mindful Educator Essentials course through www.mindfulschools.org. She is trained in the Mindful Schools curriculum. She has also furthered her coursework with the Mindful Communications class through Mindful Schools, and the MAPs or Mindful Awareness Practice Class through the UCLA marc program. She is constantly looking to continue her education in mindfulness and is currently enrolled in a two year certification for teaching awareness and compassion-based practices with Jack Kornfield & Tara Brach affiliated with Sounds True Meditation, Greater Good Science Center, & Awareness Training Institute.
